Judy and I were discussing the jeffnjudy site and I mentioned that I should probably post some stories of Andrew. The one thing that I noticed is that Ben is the one that usually says the off the wall stuff that I usually post. I started to analyze why there wasn’t more post with Andrew and it came down to comedy stylings between the two.

Ben’s sense of humor comes from the things he says. Mom and Dad tend to get a good chuckle from what he says or asks. These are often easier to post about. Andrew, on the other hand, his comedy stylings is more physical comedy. Whether he is dancing or making a funny face, he keeps Mom & Dad smiling.

His comedy is harder to capture in a blog post so instead, I took a peek back at some photos to grab some examples. Along with the funny faces, funny poses, he also has an infectious laugh that makes us laugh a little extra harder at some of his bits. Enjoy the comedy stylings of Andrew:

The boys have recently started with Taekwondo lessons and they’ve come out swinging. I am proud to say that their first exposure to Karate Kid was with Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita (although they love the Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan version too). They were so excited to hear about us signing them up for Taekwondo lessons. Not exactly Karate but close enough for them. Like other kids trying out new sports, we threw in the disclaimer that this is a trial run and we wouldn’t officially sign them up unless they really wanted to continue.

The first session was great and both boys came home excited. They were began to eye the “official” uniforms and were asking . . .”when do we get uniforms?”

The trial period was 4 sessions and they loved it from the start. At the begin of their 4th session, we invested in the uniforms as it was obvious this was something they wanted to pursue with a passion.

A few weeks later we could tell that the lessons were paying off. In this time period, Andrew had his tonsil surgery. When the doctor came out to give us an update, she asked,

Doctor: Does Andrew play soccer?

Mom: Not soccer but he is in Taekwondo.

Doctor: That explains it . . . he has a great kick!

Ooops, his self defense instincts must have kicked in. Hope he didn’t come out of anesthesia kicking and punching

As he was recovering, Andrew was able to sleep in Mom & Dad’s bed so that Mom could monitor him at night and provide the nightly pain medication. Ben was a bit jealous (even though we did the same thing for him a couple of years back). Since Dad was kicked out of his spot, he crashed with Ben that night. In the middle of the night Dad woke up with a jab to the stomach . . . shortly after, a kick to the chest . . . finally waking up wondering what’s going on, Dad stopped the upcoming blow to the face and quickly yelled out:

Dad: BEN!!! *while holding Ben’s foot, inches from his face*

Ben: *immediately waking up* oh, sorry dad . . . *rolling over and going back to bed*

In asking about this the next morning, he explained that he had a dream that kids were chasing him at the playground and was trying to kick them when they started going after him. :D

Definitely getting our money’s worth.

Today (October 12th) is surgery day for Andrew. He is having his tonsils out just like his big brother did. His recovery time will be about two weeks so we were able to get a collection of homework while he is out of school.

Mom and dad are probably more nervous about his procedure than he is. He is our tough little guy.

I will try to update this post on how everything is going.

5:50 am
Wake up call for Andrew.
Andrew: *in a sleepy voice* Dad, what day is it today?
Dad: It’s Wednesday.
Andrew: Only two more days for Star Wars the Clone Wars.

His favorite show that comes on every Friday. I was expecting him to mention his surgery but it was Star Wars.

6:30 am
Checked in. Andrew scored some stickers at the front desk and the check-in desk.

7:00 am
Andrew: *looking around in the waiting area* When are we going to go?
I think he is looking forward to going back to sleep.

7:30
Back in the waiting area. Andrew gets a new friend…Cubbie (beanie baby). Meeting with the staff that will be performing the surgery. So far so good. He is given a choice on flavors for his mask. Mom and dad are not surprised that he picks cotton candy. No cameras allowed! Nurse takes a picture with Andrew decked out in his scrubs.

7:50
Still waiting. Nurse brings dad some scrubs since dad will be going back with Andrew. Dad is appreciating the no camera policy.

8:15
Walking back to the OR. Resident makes a comment on how cute Andrew is, walking and soaking everything in. Dad walks to the OR with Andrew. He doesn’t want to hold dad’s hand…he’s a big boy.

8:20
Anesthesiologist puts Andrew at ease with a story about cotton candy…dad almost falls asleep from the story. Andrew dozes off with no issues.

8:25
Procedure starts. Mom and dad waiting…….

9:03
Procedure done. Out of the OR, waiting for them to call us back.

10:15
Andrew is waking up and is eating a Popsicle. Nurse informed us that we will be here until 1:00.

10:30
Ice cream + Rango on the TV. Recovery is going well. He’s definitely a trooper. Nurse is great, chit chatting about Alaska. For the record, she brought it up first….

12:50
Given the okay to head home. Andrew immediately sits up and tries to “help” take out the I.V. and pulse monitor. I think he is looking forward to going home.

1:00
Time for a ride in the wheelchair. Feeling a bit dizzy from the medication and laying down all morning, he has a choice to be carried by dad or wheeled in the wheel chair. He hesitates but chooses the wheelchair. Dad is happy with that decision.

1:20
Home sweet home! Thanks for the well wishes, time to recover.

Here is the challenge . . . Write down how you think the following words would be spelled by a Kindergartner and then check your answers with the link below. Remember . . . throw out all the rules of spelling and spell it exactly how it sounds . . . have fun!

Here is Andrew’s entry for the “All About Me” book:

We are trying to keep up with the creative writing skills through the summer so we are having the boys keep a Summer Journal. For Andrew, the spelling is less important than the writing itself. He is so proud of his journal entries and we are proud parents when we see the joy on his face when telling us about what he wrote.

Benjamin is also enjoying the Summer Journals along with doing a Summer Reading Log. They get to pick out a new Lego after X number of minutes read . . . I’ve never seen a boy so excited to read .

Benjamin: Why?

Dad: It’s the cops *pointing out the cop car heading their way*

Andrew: I don’t want to go to Juvie! *smiling when I looked at him*

Should Kindergarteners know about Juvie?

You forget sometimes the education your kids receive from others outside the house. We’re not talking about the good eduction from teachers either. I don’t think I want to know what else they are learning about from their buddies. When I told Judy about this we had a laugh and asked the boys, “where did you learn about Juvie?”

Their answer, “XXXX told us about it, his brother went there.” Note to self, they are no longer allowed to play with XXXX. (Name is censored to protect the innocent, or possibly guilty).

During the Memorial Day weekend, the family was outside enjoying the weather and trying to get some yard work done. The boys were getting a bit bored so dad asked them to help with some yard work. After gathering the shovel and the cart, the boys wheeled the cart across the yard and that is when they realized yard work can be hard work . . . and we haven’t even started the hard part yet.

I gave them their assignment . . . “You guys need to help shovel this dirt because we are going to remove this tree stump.” It was a small stump but it was going to be some work to get the roots exposed enough to chop and pull out. I figured, kids, dirt, and mud . . . they would love it.

Still tired from pulling the cart across the yard, they became even more tired from trying to shovel the first layer of dirt. Their excitement diminished but I almost got them excited when we started finding worms but that excitement quickly disappeared.

By now, you can tell they weren’t into this great idea of playing in the dirt and helping out dad. This soon lead into a five minute lecture, from both boys, about how I was killing Mother Earth by killing trees and killing worms. I’ll fess up to the tree killing part but I wasn’t going to take the heat for the worm killing. I was NOT killing worms . . . . on purpose.

I couldn’t take the lecturing and the guilt, so I told them to go back to playing. I think was their intent since the shovels were dropped and they were off and running before I could finish my sentence. Well played Ben & Andrew, well played.

They went back to what they were doing before but they weren’t bored anymore . . . well played Dad?!? Yeah, that was my intent, I’ll stick with that story.

After battling a long cold winter, the family was patiently waiting for spring. The spring seemed unusually cold and even though the sun was out the cold temps were lingering around. After being couped up all winter long, we headed outside to enjoy the cold Minnesota Spring.

I just got a new camera and was itching to try it out. To warm up the boys decided to DANCE?!? The first part of the video is of Andrew dancing in back of the truck. He thought I was taking a still picture and toward the end of the dance he finally said, “Are you going to take the picture?”

The boys continued to dance . . . without music . . . and I continued to take pictures. Playing with the features of the new camera, I tried the continuous shooting mode (burst shooting). In doing that, I captured funny sequences of the boys dancing. They boys cracked up when reviewing the photos and going back and forth between the dancing sequences, the Will Smith/Carlton dance came to mind. Then began the search for the song . . .

After some insomnia, youtube research, and a touch of creativity, here is the end result:
